The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good: I finally got a job. I think I will like it. Time will tell.

The Bad: I have a Microbiology test on Thursday and I don't believe that my professor has taught me anything that she expects me to know. I could have just bought the book and skipped class if it wasn't for all the lab work.

The Ugly: Watching the Packer play the Vikings. Dropped passes, sacks, penalties....dammit!
I really really really need a cigarette!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a family affair!!!

I finally found a use for facebook! I have become addicted to Mafia Wars. Now the only people I want to talk to or hear from are the people in my family...I mean mi familia. By the way, I had to delete kindergarten video boy. His dog just died and while I can relate to his pain, I really didn't need to see the subsequent 50 weepy posts about love lost. Pet or otherwise. I gotta go now. Mafia Wars was down for some emergency work on the server so I need to go back and see if I have been attacked by any rival thugs and need to retaliate, Ciao'

Update

The kindergarten videos have now reached 5. Yes that's right I said 5! OMG why do I keep going back!? I guess I keep hoping that I will find something useful or interesting coming from it, but I am quickly losing any hope whatsoever.

Vast Wasteland

In 1961 Newton Minnow referred to television as a "vast wasteland"! I wonder what he would say about the internet? While he did say that when television was good there was nothing better but just that the majority of it was a vast wasteland. I feel the same about the internet. Maybe it's just because I was just on facebook and was amazed by the overabundance of totally useless drivel that some people feel the need to share with the rest of the world. I guess you could include the drivel I am pumping out right now.
Don't get me wrong, I think the internet has become an invaluable tool in regards to the availability of information but it has also become a wasteland of such vast proportions that I think that Mr. Minnow would agree that it dwarfs the wasteland that is television(200 channels and nothing on).
I suppose my disenchantment with facebook is my own fault since I can't bring myself to deny most friend requests feeling that I don't want to offend anybody that wants to be my friend but what I am realizing is the reason why I couldn't stand half of these people in high school. I mean do I really give a shit that you prefer prefer Coke over Pepsi and seriously.....I haven't seen your ass in over 20 years I really don't need to see video of you kids first day of kindergarten!! Especially in two parts posted 10 minutes apart!!!
Ok Ok I guess I have vented enough for now. Gotta go check my facebook account.

A picture is worth a thousand words

...or in this case just one, "MORON". I have an obsession with taking the most obnoxious self-portraits I can and either leaving them on the camera for my wife to find or sending them to her camera and then setting the pic as her wallpaper. This, I know will eventually came back to haunt me but what the hell. Jenn used to delete these (I think!) but now saves them in a file solely dedicated to my facial stupidity. I felt that it would be fitting to use one of these pics for my profile since she will probably be the only person to read this blog but if someone else should happen upon my ramblings then they can look at my picture and know that I don't take myself too seriously. Believe me, I have much more serious things going on in my life than to worry about how I look in my profile.

What's in a name?

The name of this blog comes from a lyric in song called Springtime from Donald Fagen. The phrase is used several times throughout the song but the very first line is "Here at Laughing Pines where the party never ends.....". I guess I've always thought that this would be a great name for an estate or a vacation house but the more I think about it, it sounds just as fitting for the name of an insane asylum or retirement home and "the party never ends.." is said very tongue-in-cheek. Having completed my clinicals for my CNA mostly in the Alzheimers wing of a long term care facility I can hear the workers saying those words in the same way you would hear people say "Same shit, different day" if you asked them how they were doing. As for the residents? Well, they say that ignorance is bliss and so the party never ends for them. Either way I suppose there's a Laughing Pines somewhere down the line in my future, I just hope that I end up in the one with a beach!
